Who is Coniah in the 1000 Year Reign of Christ on Earth?

I plan to keep this article brief.  My last article looked at who is THE Antichrist.  If you have not read it, you might want to also read it next.  For now, I would like to introduce you to a man who lived in Old Testament times named Coniah (also known as Jeconiah or Jechonias).  To do this, let me quote a couple of Bible passages:

Jer 22:28-30 Is this man Coniah a despised broken idol? is he a vessel wherein is no pleasure? wherefore are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they know not?  O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.  Thus saith the LORD, Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.

Matthew 1:11-12 – And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:  And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;

From these passages we actually learn that Coniah places a pretty important role in history.  He is a descendant of King Josiah and an ancestor of Jesus.  In Jeremiah22, we have some interesting thoughts presented about him.  First, notice the words of verse 29: “O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.”  This should immediately grab our attention.  This is not some idle statement.  This is a major “Stop what you’re doing and pay very close attention!” type of statement.  Jeremiah continues in verse 30 to tell us that not even one of his descendants would sit on the literal throne of David and ruling in Judah.  That is, once Judah was taken into Babylonian captivity, and their descendants returned 70 years later, David’s descendants would no longer be kings in Judah ever again!

What is the impact of this?  Well, one major tenant/pillar of premillenial doctrine is that Jesus will come to reign on the literal throne of David in Judah for 1000 years.  The problem with this is that Jesus genealogy lists Coniah as one of His ancestors.  Thus, Jeremiah 22:28-30 refutes the notion that Jesus will ever rule on the literal throne of David in Judah.  So, the impact of Coniah on the 1000 Year reign of Christ on Earth is that Coniah refutes the 1000 Year reign as a false doctrine and thus refutes the entirety of premillenialism.
